Questions people ask
Short answers about how therapy works here. If yours isn't covered, ask on the free call.
What happens on the free call?
We spend 15 minutes on what's going on, how I work, and fees. If I'm not the right fit, I'll suggest someone who is. There's no obligation to continue.
What happens in the first appointment?
We start with introductions, to get to know each other and make sure we're a good fit. Then we talk about your goals for therapy and what you'd like to work on together. Your goals can change at any point along the way.
Do I have to be in Florida?
No. I'm licensed in Florida and also hold PSYPACT's Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT). You need to be physically in Florida or another PSYPACT-participating state during every session. If you'll be traveling to a state that isn't part of PSYPACT, we'll reschedule. See PSYPACT's list of participating states.
Does therapy by video work?
Research generally finds video therapy works about as well as in-person therapy for common concerns such as anxiety and depression. You'll need a private space, a phone or computer with a camera, and a steady internet connection.
How are parents involved when a child or teen is in therapy?
Is your practice LGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes. I have extensive experience supporting transgender and gender-expansive youth. Queer, trans, nonbinary, and questioning clients can expect to be understood and respected here.
What approaches do you use?
I take a person-centered approach and draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and solution-focused therapy. You'll also learn meditation and relaxation skills you can keep using on your own.
Do you take insurance?
I'm a self-pay practice and don't bill insurance directly. I provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Fees and insurance.
How long does therapy last?
It depends on your goals. Many people come weekly at first, then every other week or monthly as things improve. We review progress regularly and decide together.
Can you prescribe medication?
No, I don't prescribe medication. If medication might help, I'll refer you to a psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, or your child's pediatrician and, with your permission, coordinate with them.
Do you offer ADHD or learning evaluations?
Not right now. If you need a formal evaluation, I'll recommend someone who does them.
What if I'm in crisis?
This practice doesn't provide crisis services. If you're in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
